Bashir Annan, widely known as Gambo, a renowned Ghanaian Afrobeats artist and rapper, continues to extend his music career globally, forging valuable connections within the American music industry elite.
Having previously convened with iconic figures such as Jermaine Dupri, Timberland, and Jim Jones—confirmed for the remix of Gambo’s hit track “DRIP”—alongside other music executives, Gambo recently convened with US rap legend, actor, and entrepreneur, Snoop Dogg, known offstage as Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr.
The rendezvous between Gambo, the Vodafone Ghana Music Award-winning rapper, and the legendary Snoop Dogg unfolded in Los Angeles, California, on the fringes of the African pre-Grammy Awards Global Affairs event. The Global Affairs event, spearheaded by All We Do Is Work CEO Terry Williams and presented by Godfather Entertainment with Death Roll Records co-founder Michael Harris, brought the two talents together.
In their encounter, Gambo, the ‘Cut Soap’ artist, briefed Snoop Dogg on his forthcoming musical album currently in production in the United States. Having spent weeks in the US crafting his debut studio album, following the successful launch of his ‘New Era’ Extended Play (EP) featuring chart-toppers like ‘Drip’, ‘Beautiful’, and ‘Settle’, Gambo showcased his dedication to musical excellence.
Snoop Dogg lauded Gambo’s industriousness in his music career, urging the ‘Settle’ vocalist to persist and transcend boundaries. The Doggy Style Records founder and Death Row Records owner hinted at an impending visit to Ghana.
Notably, Gambo, who fervently leverages his music career to showcase Ghana’s positive facets globally to bolster tourism and diaspora investment, took the opportunity to impart some Twi, the Akan language, to Snoop Dogg for ease of communication with Ghanaians in their native dialect upon his visit. The impromptu Twi session, featuring words like ‘Akwaaba’ (welcome), proved a delightful exchange for Snoop Dogg.
Amidst his high-profile engagements in the US, Gambo has been collaborating with fellow African musicians, including featuring Nigeria’s Goya Menor on his street anthem ‘Cut Soap’ at the close of 2023. He further collaborated with Nigerian artist Lade on his inspirational single ‘Nobody’, garnering significant airplay and media attention across Nigeria and Ghana, securing a spot in the Ghana top 100 chart.
As both a musician and young entrepreneur, Gambo underscores the importance of networking in creating business opportunities and fostering career advancement.
