The Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Samuel Dubik Mahama, recently cautioned customers against purchasing prepaid or post-meters from anyone, regardless of whether they are ECG staff or not. Speaking on Peace FM’s morning show “Kokrokoo,” Mr Dubik Mahama addressed a concern raised by a listener who reported being charged GHC 7,000 by an ECG staff member to fix a meter.
Mr. Dubik Mahama clarified that ECG does not engage in the sale of meters. Instead, the company provides metering as part of its service connection, with the cost of the meter being recovered over time. He stressed that ECG meters are not available for instant purchase and reminded customers that the meters are labelled as the property of the Electricity Company of Ghana.
Furthermore, Mr Dubik Mahama warned electricity users to beware of fraudulent schemes and advised against paying anyone claiming to sell meters or requesting money through phone messages related to electricity services. He emphasized the importance of not falling victim to such scams and urged customers to report suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities.
