Yilo Krobo District Hospital Faces Power Disconnection Over GH¢1.3m Debt to ECG

The Yilo Krobo District Hospital, situated in the Eastern Region, is on the brink of being disconnected from the national electricity grid due to an outstanding debt amounting to GH¢1.3 million owed to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

According to Sakyiwaa Mensah, the Tema Regional Public Relations Officer for ECG, the hospital’s management has not taken any steps to address the debt since 2022. In an interview with Citi News, Mrs. Mensah emphasized the urgency for the hospital’s management to resolve the issue promptly to avoid disconnection.

“We have notified the Yilo Krobo District Hospital about the possibility of disconnection as part of our ongoing efforts to collect revenue. Their outstanding debt stands at GH¢1,398,955, and as per our records, no payments have been made since April 2022,” Mrs. Mensah stated. She further added, “While we aim to avoid disconnection, we may be compelled to take action if the debt remains unresolved.”

The looming threat of disconnection underscores the critical need for the hospital’s management to address the financial obligation to ECG. Failure to settle the debt could have severe consequences, potentially disrupting vital healthcare services provided by the facility.

Efforts to resolve the outstanding debt and prevent disconnection are paramount, with stakeholders urging swift action from the Yilo Krobo District Hospital management to alleviate the imminent threat and ensure uninterrupted access to electricity for essential medical services.
