The Member of Parliament for Mpraeso, Davis Ansah Opoku, has urged the youth of Bawku to focus on peace following the recent resurgence of violence in the region.
In an interview on Metro TV on Friday, April 11, the MP expressed his deep concern over the ongoing conflict in Bawku, which he said is obstructing the region’s growth and negatively affecting the future of its young people.
Mr. Opoku explained that the persistent violence is not only resulting in loss of life and property but is also delaying progress in crucial areas such as education and infrastructure.
“Bawku is falling behind in terms of development and progress,” he remarked, calling on stakeholders to consider the long-term consequences of the conflict.
He stressed that peace is essential for advancement, particularly for young people working towards a better future.
Using education as an example, the MP highlighted the disparities that the conflict has caused between Bawku’s youth and those in more peaceful areas of the country.
“The students in Bawku will sit for the same BECE as those in Accra. The children in Bawku aim to attend the same universities as those in Accra,” he pointed out, emphasizing the importance of providing equal opportunities in a peaceful environment.
Mr. Opoku ended his statement with a heartfelt appeal to the youth: “I urge the young people of Bawku to embrace peace.”
He emphasized that only peace will allow the town to experience development, better education, and full national inclusion, calling on traditional leaders and community elders to help end the cycle of violence.
