The government has urged the public to disregard a viral video circulating on social media, asserting that President John Dramani Mahama’s remarks have been intentionally misrepresented for partisan aims.
Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Minister of State in Charge of Government Communications, provided this clarification in a Facebook post on Monday, July 27, following the video’s rapid spread online. He emphasised that the President’s comments were taken out of context by “misguided elements” seeking to distort his message.
“Some misguided individuals have misinterpreted the President’s words in this video for narrow political gain,” he stated.
Mr Kwakye Ofosu explained that President Mahama was discussing the allocation of GH¢150 million specifically designated for post-flood mitigation efforts during a conversation with the National Security Coordinator. “The President clearly referred to the ‘release’ of GH¢150 million, which was in direct connection to funds intended for post-flood mitigation works. That is the essence of the discussion with the National Security Coordinator,” he clarified.
He urged the public to remain vigilant and not to be swayed by the misleading claims circulating on social media, adding, “Disregard the mischievous lies!”
