“Game of Thrones” fans flocked to Dallas for an extraordinary auction, eager to acquire a treasure trove of costumes, props, and iconic memorabilia from the beloved series. The Heritage Auctions event, held from Thursday to Saturday, featured over 900 lots—including suits of armour, swords, jewellery, and more—capturing the essence of the HBO phenomenon and ultimately generating an impressive $21.1 million.
At the centre of the auction was the Iron Throne, the coveted symbol of power that characters battled for throughout the show’s epic eight-season run. After a thrilling six-minute bidding war, the throne sold for a staggering $1.49 million. This replica, crafted from plastic and moulded from the original screen-used version, was finished with metallic paint and jewel embellishments, echoing the legendary throne forged from the melted swords of a thousand foes.
The fierce competition extended to other notable items, with starting bids ranging from $500 to $20,000 often soaring beyond expectations. Highlights included a gray suede ensemble worn by Emilia Clarke as Daenerys Targaryen, which fetched $112,500, and Cersei Lannister’s striking red velvet dress, sold for $137,500. Jaime Lannister’s black-leather armour and iconic Oath keeper longsword also commanded impressive prices of $275,000 and $212,500, respectively. As HBO’s Jay Roewe noted prior to the auction, “Game of Thrones” remains a significant cultural milestone, continuing to captivate the hearts of fans and collectors alike.
