The wife of former National Food Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO) Chief Executive Officer Hanan Abdul-Wahab Aludiba has applied to the High Court for permission to travel to the United Kingdom to seek medical care for the couple’s son. Faiza Seidu Wuni, who is standing trial alongside her husband in a criminal case, is asking the court to amend her bail conditions to enable the trip. The application is expected to be heard on Tuesday, July 28.
Wuni’s request follows a similar application recently filed by her husband, who also sought the court’s approval to travel abroad for medical reasons. The prosecution has questioned the timing of the two applications, arguing that Wuni’s motion was submitted only a few days after Aludiba’s request and expressing concern over the sequence of events. The defense, however, insists that the application is strictly intended to allow Wuni to make arrangements for, or accompany, their son for medical treatment in the United Kingdom.
The High Court is expected to consider submissions from both the prosecution and the defence before ruling on whether Wuni should be granted temporary leave to travel. The hearing will be limited to the travel application and will not address the substantive criminal proceedings currently pending before the court.
Aludiba and his wife are facing criminal charges arising from alleged financial irregularities during his tenure as CEO of NAFCO. Prosecutors accuse the couple of offences relating to the handling of public funds and procurement processes, which they say resulted in financial loss to the state. Both defendants have pleaded not guilty and remain on bail, with conditions requiring them to remain within the court’s jurisdiction unless granted permission to travel.
