A tragic incident occurred in the Suaman District of the Western North Region, where a 30-year-old man, identified as Majeed Tugah, drowned in the River Bia.
According to Stephen Otu, the Assembly Member for the Suino Electoral Area, Majeed had been working near the riverbank when disaster struck. After heavy rainfall on the evening of July 6, 2026, the water level in the River Bia rose dramatically. Reports indicate that Majeed attempted to swim across the rapidly flowing river but faced difficulty and ultimately drowned.

Residents launched an intensive search operation, and Majeed’s body was sadly recovered on July 8, 2026. The authorities have since taken his remains to the mortuary for preservation and further investigation by the police.
In light of this unfortunate event, Assembly Member Otu has urged community members to exercise extreme caution during the rainy season. He emphasised the importance of avoiding river crossings and flooded areas to help prevent similar tragedies in the future.
