The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel George, has announced a significant reduction in the cost of fibre broadband services offered by MTN Ghana, following discussions aimed at making internet access more affordable for consumers.
In a post shared on social media on Wednesday, the minister revealed that engagements between the government and the telecommunications provider had led to substantial cuts in the prices of unlimited fibre broadband packages. He described the move as part of efforts to respond to public concerns over the high cost of internet services.
Under the new pricing structure, subscribers who previously paid GH¢987 for an unlimited 100 Mbps broadband package will now pay GH¢299 per month for the same service. Mr. George noted that the revised rates take effect immediately, stating that fibre broadband prices had seen a dramatic reduction.
The updated packages also include an unlimited 300 Mbps plan priced at GH¢444 monthly, while customers seeking higher speeds can subscribe to a 500 Mbps unlimited package for GH¢999. According to the minister, the reductions are intended to improve access to affordable, stable and reliable broadband connectivity across the country.
Mr. George commended the management and staff of MTN Ghana for responding positively to concerns raised by both consumers and government. He further assured the public that the ministry would continue working with telecommunications operators to secure better service offerings and more competitive pricing for Ghanaians.
The announcement is expected to be welcomed by households, businesses, remote workers and content creators who depend on high-speed internet services. Although MTN Ghana is yet to release a detailed statement on the revised packages, the development represents one of the most significant broadband price adjustments in Ghana’s telecommunications sector in recent years.
