Ghanaian actor Prince David Osei has addressed a controversial post from his X (formerly Twitter) account that referred to President-Elect John Dramani Mahama as a “drunkard.” The post was a response to an unsavoury comment from a user, and it has since been deleted. In an interview with Andy Dosty on Hitz FM, Prince David Osei clarified that he was not the one who originally posted the insulting comment about the incoming President.
He explained that, after the election results, he and many others felt “pained and sort of depressed” due to the surprising outcome. However, he made an effort to congratulate the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Mahama, expressing that “elections are over, we should all learn to live in peace.” Prince David Osei mentioned that following his positive comments, he began receiving a significant number of attacks on Twitter, which may have led to the unfortunate post. He has since apologized to the President-Elect for the incident. Prince David Osei shared more details about the incident during an interview on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM, explaining that due to the disappointment from the election results, he was not actively using his phone. He mentioned that he left his phone aside, and when faced with online bullying, he typically handed his phone over to his cousins or friends to avoid engaging with negative comments.
The actor expressed his surprise when, upon checking his Twitter feed the next morning, he discovered reports claiming he had insulted President-Elect John Dramani Mahama. He clarified that when he checked his account, he saw posts that he did not write and noticed people tagging him in content that seemed to come from his page. He then spoke to his cousins and friends, who admitted to replying to some of the negative comments, but none of them had tagged him in those tweets.
As the posts were linked to his Twitter account, Prince David Osei felt compelled to publicly apologize. He shared that he had received numerous death threats and constant calls, which made him realize the severity of the situation. Prince David Osei clarified that his cousins and friends denied posting the comment that referred to John Dramani Mahama as a “drunkard.” However, he acknowledged that they might have made the posts in response to provocation from X (formerly Twitter) users who were attacking him. He explained that in the heat of the moment, they likely reacted to the negative comments but deleted the posts afterward.
He added that he believed the deletion of the posts was done to mitigate the situation, and he took responsibility for the incident, offering his apologies publicly to the President-Elect and those affected.
