Defense Minister Dominic Nitiwul has announced that the government will be deploying security personnel to all border towns, with a particular focus on the northern regions, to combat grain smuggling. This initiative is part of a broader government strategy to enforce a ban on grain exports aimed at preventing potential food shortages caused by recent drought conditions.
The Minister emphasized that the deployment of security forces is intended to safeguard the welfare of the population. He stated, “We are taking decisive action by stationing security personnel at our borders, especially in the north, as well as in the east and south. We urge citizens to cooperate with our security agencies.”
The Defense Minister also called on the public to report any suspicious activities or unauthorized routes that might facilitate smuggling. “If you notice any irregularities or suspect illegal activities, please inform us so we can take appropriate action. This effort is crucial for ensuring that our citizens do not face unnecessary hardship,” Nitiwul added.
