Adenta Community Basic School Faces Fire Incident

The Adenta Community Basic School in Accra has suffered a significant setback as fire engulfed parts of its premises, specifically damaging the staff common room. The incident occurred during the late hours of Wednesday, March 20, 2024.

While the exact cause of the fire remains uncertain, fire personnel have reported extensive damage to furniture, books, and important school records. Adenta’s Municipal Chief Executive, Ebenezer Doku, indicated that investigations are currently underway to determine the cause of the fire.

In a statement to Citi News, Doku recounted the sequence of events, stating, “Somewhere around 7:50 pm, I was still in the office when I had a call that the Adenta Community Basic School was on fire, so I rushed there, and when I got there, the Fire Service had already quenched the fire.” He further added, “When I got close, I realized the head teacher’s office was broken into and the fridge moved, and there was smoke, but when I asked the security man, he said he also came for night duties and saw the fridge downstairs. So as of now, we don’t know whether it was the same person who moved the fridge that set the place ablaze.”

Despite the unfortunate incident, school authorities have assured that academic activities will continue unaffected. However, the damage caused by the fire has undoubtedly posed challenges for the school community, necessitating swift action to restore normalcy and address the aftermath of the fire incident.
