The Chief Inspector of Schools in the Krachi West municipality of the Oti Region has issued a passionate plea to the government, urging it to prioritize investment in women’s sports. Mr. Ofori emphasized the need for increased funding to encourage more women to participate in sports, highlighting the sector’s potential for economic growth and empowerment.
In an interview with Adom News, Mr. Ofori expressed concern over the lack of concerted efforts to support women’s involvement in sports, stressing the importance of government intervention in fostering gender equality and opportunities within the sporting arena.
The call for investment in women’s sports came during a football gala competition organized by the Kete-Krachi Cluster of World Vision Ghana. The event featured a thrilling match between the female football teams of Krachi SHS and Kaakye Technical Institute, with Krachi SHS emerging victorious with a narrow 1-0 win.
Mr. Ofori underscored the significance of providing adequate sporting facilities and equipment, emphasizing that inter-school and college sporting events would serve as platforms for young, talented female athletes to showcase their abilities and excel in their chosen disciplines.
Sasu Brako, the Education Project Officer at Kete-Krachi Cluster of World Vision Ghana, echoed Mr. Ofori’s sentiments, emphasizing the organization’s commitment to promoting gender inclusiveness in rural communities. Brako emphasized the importance of creating opportunities for both boys and girls to harness their talents and contribute to the development of sports at the grassroots level.
As calls for increased investment in women’s sports gain momentum, stakeholders are urged to recognize the importance of gender equality and inclusivity in sports development initiatives.
