Ghana\u2019s Ambassador to China, H.E. Kojo Bonsu, has urged Ghanaian businesses to secure exhibition space at the prestigious China Import and Export Fair, commonly known as the Canton Fair, to display industrial and value-added \u201cMade in Ghana\u201d products to a global audience.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ambassador Bonsu made this important call during a working visit to the China Foreign Trade Centre at the Canton Fair Complex in Guangzhou on June 25, 2026. He was warmly welcomed by Ms Zhu Yong, the Centre’s Director General, and was accompanied by Mr Sidney Kwesi Ellis, Consul General of Ghana in Guangzhou.<\/p>\n\n\n

During his visit, Ambassador Bonsu emphasised the need to transition from a focus on raw commodity trade to the promotion of finished goods. He called on the Centre to assist Ghanaian manufacturers in securing exhibition opportunities at future fairs, highlighting that many products from Ghana could benefit from China\u2019s zero-tariff policy for least developed countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhile we continue to trade raw materials between Ghana and China, it is imperative that we also showcase our processed minerals, food products, ceramics, textiles, auto components, and other manufactured goods,\u201d said Ambassador Bonsu. He remarked, \u201cThe Canton Fair has been instrumental in the development of China\u2019s industry. Ghanaian businesses must leverage this platform to bolster our own industry. We can no longer rely solely on exporting raw materials while importing finished products.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ms Zhu Yong expressed her support for this initiative, confirming the Centre’s readiness to assist more Ghanaian firms in their journey to becoming industrial exporters. Ms Zeng Ping, Deputy Director of the External Relations Office, echoed this sentiment, expressing enthusiasm about the prospect of more Ghanaian companies showcasing their value-added products to international buyers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following his tour of the China Foreign Trade Centre, Ambassador Bonsu visited the Ceramics China 2026 event, where he engaged with manufacturers on topics such as equipment supply, technology transfer, and market access opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The visit aligns with the objectives of Ghana\u2019s Critical Minerals Policy 2023, which mandates local processing of strategic minerals before export to capture greater value from the country’s abundant resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
