This marks a significant milestone in the exploration and development of the Afina<\/strong> field, which is located offshore in Ghana’s oil-rich Deepwater Tano\/Cape Three Points<\/strong> block. The appraisal activity is critical in assessing the commercial viability and potential of the Afina discovery, as it helps determine the quality of the reserves, flow rates, and overall productivity of the field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This achievement marks a critical step in the exploration and development of the Afina field<\/strong>, which is in the offshore Deepwater Tano\/Cape Three Points<\/strong> block in Ghana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The positive flow rates and the insight into the reservoir’s pressure dynamics provide confidence in the future production capabilities of the Afina field, marking a significant milestone in its development. These findings will be critical for shaping the field development strategies<\/strong> and drilling plans<\/strong> as SEP, GNPC, and GNPC EXPLORCO continue to move forward with the exploration and production phases of the project. In addition to the promising results from the Cenomanian sandstone<\/strong>, a mini-DST<\/strong> conducted on the Turonian sandstone<\/strong> also confirmed the presence of gas and condensate<\/strong> in the reservoir. The test estimated a flow rate potential of up to 12,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boepd)<\/strong>, indicating the significant potential of the Turonian reservoir to contribute to the field’s overall production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Furthermore, the pressure levels<\/strong> recorded during this test were consistent with those measured in 2019<\/strong>, which reinforces the stability and reliability<\/strong> of the reservoir. This stability is crucial for ensuring long-term production and optimizing reservoir management strategies, as it suggests the reservoir can maintain its performance over time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The combination of favourable results from both the Cenomanian<\/strong> and Turonian sandstones<\/strong> positions the Afina field<\/strong> as a highly promising asset for Springfield Exploration and Production (SEP)<\/strong>, GNPC<\/strong>, and GNPC EXPLORCO<\/strong>. These findings will help inform the partners’ field development<\/strong> and production planning<\/strong> as they continue to assess the full potential of the discovery. The appraisal program<\/strong> for the Afina discovery<\/strong> concluded successfully with the release of the Deepsea Bollsta rig<\/strong> on November 22, 2024<\/strong>. The rig left Ghanaian waters the following day, marking the end of the operation. This milestone marks a significant step in advancing the Afina field<\/strong> toward its development phase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kevin Okyere<\/strong>, CEO of Springfield Exploration and Production (SEP)<\/strong>, expressed his satisfaction with the results of the appraisal program, highlighting the program’s success in validating their geological, geophysical, and reservoir models. He also noted the program\u2019s demonstration of the company\u2019s operational capacity<\/strong> in executing complex field evaluations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Okyere further shared optimism about the potential for even higher production rates, stating:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAfina-1x is a vertical well; we are confident that a horizontal well or other well completion options that maximise reservoir exposure in the fields would deliver much higher production rates.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This confidence in the ability to enhance production further positions the Afina field<\/strong> as a highly promising asset for SEP<\/strong> and its partners, GNPC<\/strong> and GNPC EXPLORCO<\/strong>.
