Amidst criticism blaming Iwobi, 27, for Nigeria’s loss in Sunday’s match, social media platforms have seen a surge in trolling directed at the player. Iwobi, who played for 79 minutes before being substituted by Alhassan Yusuf, took the brunt of fans’ frustrations, leading him to delete his Instagram pictures in response to the online attacks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ahmed Musa, captain of the Super Eagles, alongside other Nigerians, has condemned the targeted online assaults against Iwobi, stressing that singling out one player for the team’s defeat is unjust and unfair.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a statement shared on X, formerly Twitter, Musa urged fans to cease cyber-bullying directed at Iwobi, emphasizing the collective responsibility of the team. “Losing a game is undoubtedly tough, but targeting a single player for the team\u2019s shortcomings is unfair and unjust. We win as a team, and we lose as a team. Alex gave his all on the field, just like every member of our squad,” he expressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
