As part of its renewed commitment to support cocoa farmers and enhance productivity, the Government of Ghana has reintroduced the Free Cocoa Fertiliser Programme. Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson announced that President Mahama’s administration will roll out the programme starting with the 2025/26 cocoa crop year.
Addressing the public, Dr. Forson stated:
“Ladies and gentlemen, and to the cocoa farmer, I am pleased to announce that President Mahama’s Administration has reintroduced the free cocoa fertiliser programme as an additional support to the Ghanaian cocoa farmer, beginning the 2025/26 crop year.”
The programme aims to provide cocoa farmers with a comprehensive package of free agricultural inputs designed to boost yields and reduce production costs, ultimately strengthening the cocoa sector. The Government of Ghana has announced the reintroduction of the Free Cocoa Fertiliser Programme as part of its ongoing commitment to support cocoa farmers and enhance productivity in the sector.
Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, declared:
“Ladies and gentlemen, and to the cocoa farmer, I am pleased to announce that President Mahama’s Administration has reintroduced the free cocoa fertiliser programme as an additional support to the Ghanaian cocoa farmer, beginning the 2025/26 crop year.”
Starting with the 2025/2026 cocoa season, the programme will provide farmers with a comprehensive package of free agricultural inputs aimed at boosting yields and lowering production costs. Beginning with the 2025/26 crop year, President Mahama’s administration will provide cocoa farmers with a wide range of free agricultural inputs, including:
- Free cocoa fertilisers (both liquid and granular)
- Free insecticides
- Free spraying machines
- Free fungicides
- Free flower inducers
Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson emphasised that this initiative is specifically designed to directly improve farmers’ output and income. He urged farmers to use these inputs responsibly and solely for enhancing cocoa yields and their livelihoods:
“Government strongly advises cocoa farmers to apply these inputs solely to improve cocoa yield and their income.”
This programme is part of a broader set of measures introduced in the 2025/26 cocoa season aimed at revitalising the sector and restoring the dignity and profitability of cocoa farming in Ghana.
