Karpowership Ghana has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing education by providing scholarships to 40 deserving students at Takoradi Technical University (TTU). Now in its third year, the initiative aims to eliminate financial barriers to education and promote academic excellence. The scholarship program, which targets students from the Engineering Department, covers full tuition fees for students pursuing courses in mechanical, electrical, and civil engineering.
A special ceremony was held on Thursday, November 21, at the TTU Auditorium Conference Room, where the scholarship recipients were formally presented with a symbolic cheque. The event was attended by TTU management, parents, and the students, who expressed their gratitude for the support. Sandra Amarquaye, Corporate Communications Manager for Karpowership Ghana, spoke on the significance of the initiative, emphasizing that the scholarship represents not only financial aid but also a vote of confidence in the students’ potential. “We believe that investing in education is investing in Ghana’s future,” Amarquaye stated, adding that this year’s initiative also aligns with the company’s commitment to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 on quality education and SDG 5 on gender equality, as more female students are benefiting from the scholarship.
Prof. John Frank Eshun, Vice-Chancellor of TTU, praised the collaboration between Karpowership Ghana and the university, calling it a powerful example of how corporate partnerships can help overcome financial challenges in education. “Together, we are ensuring that no deserving student is left behind,” he said. Dr. Moses Maclean Abnory, the university’s Registrar, echoed these sentiments, highlighting the lasting impact the scholarship would have on the students, their families, and their communities. “This support will not only benefit the students but will also contribute to the overall development of society,” he added.
The scholarship recipients also shared how the support has transformed their educational journey. Benedicta Boadi expressed her gratitude, noting that the scholarship provided her with the mental clarity to excel in her studies. “I’m determined to make my sponsors proud,” she said. Ali Wattata also expressed his appreciation, stating that the opportunity has allowed him to focus fully on his academic success. Parents of the students, like Godwin Selorm, whose daughter is a beneficiary, also expressed deep gratitude, calling the scholarship a “huge relief” and a beacon of hope. The Karpowership Ghana Scholarship Scheme not only covers tuition but also represents the company’s vision of empowering the next generation and contributing to the long-term progress of society.
