Ghana Sports Journalists Take a Stand: Peaceful Demonstration Planned for February 14th.

Frustrated by the declining state of Ghanaian football, a group of prominent sports journalists, including Veronica Commey, Saddick Adams, and Patrick Osei Agyemang, have secured a permit to stage a peaceful demonstration against the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

This bold action comes in the wake of Ghana’s disappointing exit from the 2023 AFCON, marking the second consecutive edition where the Black Stars failed to progress beyond the group stage. The planned demonstration, scheduled for February 14th in Accra, aims to voice the collective displeasure of the nation’s footballing community and ignite a positive change.

Saddick Adams, one of the organizers, emphasizes the peaceful nature of the event, describing it as “a walk to present a petition.” He highlights the dwindling passion for the sport in Ghana and stresses the need for immediate action. “There is no hate,” he clarifies, “but a positive anger to change the state of affairs.”

This demonstration follows a series of public criticisms directed at the GFA and the Ministry, questioning their leadership and demanding accountability for the national team’s struggles. The journalists’ stance reflects a wider sentiment of disappointment and frustration shared by many Ghanaians who yearn for their beloved Black Stars to reclaim their former glory.

With the official demonstration route to be announced by the Ghana Police Service at 2 PM today, all eyes are on February 14th. Will this peaceful march spark a much-needed dialogue and pave the way for a brighter future for Ghanaian football? Only time will tell, but one thing is certain: the passion for the sport burns strong, and the demand for change is undeniable.
