We have made it our task to help employers recruit qualified skilled workers as well as assist willing skilled workers go through the application process, find jobs and secure accommodations. Fast and easy entry into Germany and other Schengen countries
If you apply, you do not require a permanent employment contract in advance. You can simply use the points system to prove your existing qualifications (e.g. language skills or work experience). This eliminates the need for a complicated examination procedure. With the Opportunity Card, you can get to know your new employer at your leisure and look for a job that suits you and your qualifications.
Explore the German labor market with good income
Part-time employment on the basis of the minimum wage (or above) allowed. This is currently 12.00 euros gross per hour (as of December 2023). With a part-time job (20 hours per week), you can earn above 1000 euros per month. If you want to change to a full-time job, your net income will rise above 1200 euros a month. The earning potential depends on the sector you want to work in and your qualifications. With the Opportunity Card, you have a good chance of earning a fair wage so you can easily finance your everyday life in Germany.
Guaranteed work permit
Until now, workers from non-EU countries have needed a visa to enter Germany and work. This requires an existing job offer as the Federal Employment Agency often has to approve your stay. If you are not a recognised skilled worker, you can come to Germany with the Opportunity Card to look for a job locally.
With the introduction of the new residence title, the Federal Government simplifies entry conditions for prospective workers from non-EU countries like Ghana
Recognition of foreign qualifications
The basic requirement is (at least) two years of vocational training or a university degree according to the rules of your country of origin. In addition, you must have basic knowledge of German (A1) or English (B2) and also be able to prove this. To receive the Opportunity Card, you must also have sufficient financial means to secure your livelihood independently. This is usually possible with a part-time job (up to 20 hours per week).
Proof of self finance
You will be required to finance your own living expenses in Germany. This means you have to prove that you can support yourself financially while looking for job in Germany
The Points System
If you meet these basic requirements, you can use a points system to check the qualifications you need. You must achieve at least six (6) points out of fourteen (14) to be allowed to work in Germany.
You can apply for the Opportunity Card at the competent mission abroad in your country of origin or the German Embassy. Please note that you must meet all the requirements
Prepare your documents
Gather all neccessary documents in cluding a valid passport, prove of your qualifications, language skills, financial means, health insurance, accommodation and your points documentaion.
Apply for the Chancenkarte
Submit your application to your German Embassy or consulate in your country. You need to fill out an application form, pay a fee usually around 75 Euros and may have to attend an interview and provide biometric data. The processing time is typically 4 to 8 weeks, but can vary.
Receive your Chancenkarte and travel to Germany
If your application is approved, you will receive a visa sticker in your passport allowing you to enter Germany within six (6) months. Once you arrive, register your address at the local registration office and apply for your Chancenkarte at the local Immigration office. You will get a plastic card serving as your residence permit for up to one year.
Look for a Job or recognition procedure
While in Germany, you can search for a job or have your qualifications recognized. You can work up to 20 hours per week in any job that does not require specific qualifications during this time.
Switch to regular residence permit
If you find a suitable job or complete the recognition procedure, you can apply for a regular residence permit for employment or self-employment at the local immigration office. Provide the required documents, and you will receive a new residence permit allowing you to work and live in Germany for as long as your contract or self-employment status is valid.

Difficulties in finding affordable accomodation in big cities might be challenging.
Adjusting to a new culture can lead to culture shock, loneliness or even discrimination due to language barriers or cultural differences.
Plus dealing with bureauceracy, paperwork and fees when applying for visas, permits or recognition procedures can be time consuming and challenging.
Leave Germany if you do not find a suitable job or complete the recognition procedures within the one year.
