The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has cleared 34 aspirants to contest the party’s upcoming Ashanti regional executive elections, after one candidate withdrew during vetting.
Rita Talata Asobayire, Chairman of the Regional Election Committee, announced the results while addressing the media in Kumasi. She said 35 aspirants originally filed to contest, but one withdrew during the vetting process.
Asobayire described the vetting exercise as peaceful, adding that all cleared candidates have pledged to campaign cleanly and work toward uniting the party ahead of the 2028 general election.
She urged aspirants to steer clear of insults and personal attacks during campaigning, and called on delegates to vote based on competence and loyalty to the party rather than personal alliances.
The Regional Election Committee has put measures in place to guarantee a free, fair, and transparent election, Asobayire said.
The NPP’s Ashanti regional executive elections are scheduled for August 16 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
Aspirants have committed to running campaigns free of acrimony and to closing ranks after the polls to help return the party to power nationally.
